Maver man Graeme Wall has secured his place in the Hayfield Lakes Winter Carpa Series final after topping round nine on Dannie’s Island lake. The local Barnsley-based rod braved artic conditions to find quality skimmer bream at 16m on the pole with pellet to top what was a difficult day with a very strong field in attendance. Having narrowly missed out on qualification on the previous round, Graeme can now look forward to the final on Sunday 16th April.
Below, Graeme reflects on a successful but very cold round nine:
“I drew peg 44 Island lake, which I was quite happy with. I arrived at my peg to find Geoff Wilde to my left and good firned Andy Kinder to my right – couldn’t have asked for better company“.
“I decided to set up one feeder rod with a hybrid feeder twinned with 4mm expander hookbait to catch anything that swims and a single pole line at 16m with soft pellets & micros (thanks to Craig Tidswell for my soft pellets as I’d left mine at home)“.
“I managed 23lb of silver fish and one very small carp around 4oz! This was enough to secure a first place finish on Dannie’s lake, narrowly infront of Gary Mumby and his 20lb and Oliver Scotthorne and his 16lb for 3rd“.
“This was enough to see me through to the Grand Final – at last! I was very relieved after finishing second last week and narrowly missing out on qualifying. Now I can relax“!
“Well done to Neil Stones qualifying from Adam’s Lake“!
The event is a twenty (20) match series from which anglers take their best fifteen (15) results, dropping five (5). Anglers are pegged over sections of five (5) with points being awarded depending on where in the section they finish. As the event progresses, overall match winners, or the highest positioned unqualified angler, goes through to the Grand Final, which is being held this year on Sunday 29th April on Dannie’s Island Lake.
The series is now nearly at the halfway stage with another eleven (11) rounds still to go. The remaining rounds will take place every sunday between now and the end of the qualifying rounds.
Graeme joins fellow Maver man Andy Kinder in April’s final after Andy managed to qualify from the opening round of the competition.
