Throughout the winter months, Maver-Dynamite Hayfield Lakes is the setting for the popular Carpa Winter League – an event which sees anglers compete in multiple rounds chasing a ticket to the Carpa Winter League final.
After qualifying earlier in the season, our man Andy Kinder was competing in the stacked field to grab that Carpa crown.
Split over both Dannie’s Island and Adam’s Lakes, Andy found himself sat on peg 66 on Adam’s. A peg he was relatively happy with, but knew he would always be battling against peg 33 for the win. However, with over £8000 in prize money up for grabs, including section winners and overall standings, there was always something to play for.
With the strong winds howling across the bankside, it made for a simple match plan. Fishing at 25m in front of him, he deployed a method feeder with an orange wowzer on the hook, repeatedly feeding fishery 8mm’s over this to bring some fish into the swim. With patience being a virtue, he’s just ticked over catching the odd fish when they would fall for his perfectly placed trap.
In the remaining couple of hours of the match, he’s made the decision to up his loose feed which paid dividends, with an action-packed last hour, catching a fish every single cast.
When the weigh scales came round, Andy’s total weight came to 111lb, which gained him second on the lake and an £800 pick-up. As suspected, the lake winner was peg 33, where Steve Clegg caught 152lb.
