The 23rd qualifier event of the 2018 Mega Match This qualifier campaign paid its last visit to The Glebe fishery in Leicestershire.
Cool, cloudy, damp and breezy weather greeted the sell-out field and, based on recent weights from this prolific venue, expectations were high despite the sudden change in air pressure and temperature. It was a slow start for the majority of the competitors. However, a few managed to find the fish early doors fishing short at four and five metres.
The winner, going one better than his previous Match This outting having finished second on Wednesday at Decoy lakes, was Matt Higgins (Matrix Bait-Tech LTB).
Drawn on Pool 6, peg 87, he opted to fish short at five metres feeding 6mm pellet and using pellet on the hook to catch almost immediately. Matt concentrated on his short line feeding throughout the match to end the day with carp to 8lbs for a total weight of 256-10-00.
Second place, drawn on Pool 1, peg 1, went to Ben Bell (Maver Milton Keynes). Like Matt, Ben has already finished second in an earlier qualifier this year, again at Decoy lakes. Ben started on the short pole feeding 6mm pellets and then moved to his left hand margin feeding the same to finish the match with carp to 6lbs for a total weight of 208-05-00.
Rounding off the top three finish on the day was Jason Collins (MAP / Bait-Tech) who drew Pool 7, peg 98. Like the two (2) anglers that finished above him, Jason chose to fish short and down his margin feeding and using 6mm pellets on the hook to finish with carp to 14lbs and a total weight of 185-15-00.
