The Maver-Dynamite North West (MDNW) lads have been doing what they do best and getting some brilliant results on their respective matches.
First up was the final round of the Whitmore Winter League – a four-man team event where MDNW was represented by Warren Crolla, Pete Richmond, Matt Goulding, and Nik Jenkins. Heading into the match, the team were leading by just a single point, so the plan was to avoid a blowout and secure a win.
With both Warren and Pete winning their sections, Nik coming third, and Matt recording a fifth, their 18-point total was enough to extend their lead at the top and win the league outright.
Next, teammates John Paul Nugent and Lee Lamb decided to jump on the Partridge Lakes open match with a tough field totalling 35. Both anglers drew on the favoured Covey 4 – Lee on 88 and JP on 98.
Lee’s taken a maggot down the edge approach, switching between this and pellets down the edge to keep fish going in the net. He’s added a few more on meat near the end of the match to total 91lb for that silver medal position.
JP has had a slightly different day on 98, catching the majority of his weight on pellets, with only a few gracing his net on meat in the last hour. This was enough to put 96lb on the scales and take the win.
Craig Whittaker travelled to Barston to stand in for the Reel Elite team on the Feedermasters Superleague qualifier. With peg 24 being his home for the day, he’s stuck to the team plan and started long at 42m to catch some F1’s and skimmers, before coming shorter at 30m for some more skimmer action, and finishing off at 10m to weigh 30lb 8oz and third in his 18-man section.
Finally, Stephen Physick travelled to the Cunneries for the Saturday open, where peg 40 on Merlin lake stuck to his hand. With strong side-winds hampering any ideas of fishing long, Ste has fished hard pellets in the margins and maggots short, catching 38lb of F1’s to win his section.
